Hi Guys can some one advise / help me .. My L322 Vogue has suddenly developed a problem with the steering wheel .. when you key in it only comes out half the normal distance and even when you try to do it manually its the same.. when you key out the wheel just stays in the same spot i left it (doesn't retract) and there's a bleeping sound !! Can some help

I believe these suffer from problems with the motor that drives the steering column in/out. there's probably quite a few posts that would confirm this if you do a search. I know mine has had the steering column replaced (before I bought it), and the symptoms on the LR receipt for the work sound very similar to those you've described.

Sorry to hear about it Garwillis. Bigdel is right though, its a common problem and is, as they say, ****ed. Mine has the same problem, but even worse, mine is stuck all the way in, so have to have the seat fairly far forwards at the moment! Not good!

You're looking at about 400-600 quid to get it fixed. LR refuse to acknowldge it as a recall even though it is a very common problem.

If you take off the plastic surround under the column, you will be able to see if the cogs/spiral have broken/come adrift (1 poss cause) or the whole bracket which secures the motor to the column can snap (no.2 cause). this can be remedied by using the plastic ratchet bands (can't remember their proper name). Either way, look at fullfatrr.com for pictures of how to fix.

I had a similar issue recently where the reach adjust failed - crappy plastic bracket had snapped (cold weather) and the motor had come loose allowing the drive shaft to fall out and land in the footwell. Have to be a contortionist to get access but took 1 hour and three zip ties to fix it.

it happend to mine last year but fixed itself ? sqealing in and out . at the time there was some one selling a fix kit on ebay for about fifty quid might be worth a look he manufactured them himself

Thanks guys appreciate the advice, however there's news !! Whilst sat waiting for the missus i gave it a bit of a yank .. The steering wheel that is outwardly and it seem so be operating in and out automatically now how ever when i key out i've still got this odd bleeping sound going off ..mmmm not sure if they're linked or not though.. when your coloumn knackard up did it bleep several times when you keyed out ? although telling you some thing was wrong.. i'm going to have a look on the hand held to see if any codes are in there as there's nothig on the display about it....

Bit of a thread-resurrect, but I have just managed to fix mine today myself. Feeling rather chuffed at doing it without having to splash a penny of cash!

As per most cases, it was the crappy plastic bracket which had snapped. Its a total pain in the ass to get to to fasten it back on - I used cable ties as others recommended.

I'm far from being a mechanic, so it proves this can be fixed by anyone. But you will need some star shaped (torx) screwdrivers.

This link shows a bit more detail fullfatrr.com - View topic - Steering column adjuster . You do NOT need to take the whole dash off, I managed just taking the panel above the pedals off (watch for the light and 'bong' speaker, these need disconnecting), along with the bit which houses the bonnet release catch. Took me about 2 hours in all, mostly faffing around trying to get things in position whilst doing the limbo. Could be done in half that time if I was to do it again.

In hind sight should have taken some pictures! But not taking it apart again now!!
