Hi all, it's been a couple of years since I last visited the Landy Zone ( I've been blessed with trouble free motoring )
Until now!!!
I have a noisy rear diff that's vibrating and is probably on it's way out( covered 160k miles)
My question is 3 fold as a brand new unit is around a grand.
No1. Does anyone have a brand new unit on a shelf gathering dust that they want to give me
No2. Can I replace the complete diff with a better one( upgraded for off-road etc) like an air locker type ETC?
No3. Any advise is welcome

Cheers Ewan

At £600+ from Rimmerbros, probably more , elsewhere. If you do find the unicorn who lives at No1, can you tell the rest of us. So we can also get all sorts of expensive freebies, before their nurse realises they're unsupervised tenor (2).gif

I’m sure that you are already aware but, just in case, it might be worth highlighting that the BMW-engined petrol and diesel L322 final drives have a different ratio.

M62 4.4 V8 = 3.727 (41T/11T)

M57 3.0 TD6 = 4.100 (41T/10T)

might want to try ashcroft transmissions

Thanks Guys
I’ve emailed Ashcroft ( I await a response) I may end up getting a used diff of Ebay and have a go at getting our motor gearbox guys at work to ref
You sure it's the diff and not UJ's?
its a good point! When on ramp and in the air and stephascope is put on diff ( loads of noise and vibration) occurs

If it's UJs then it's the full thing, anyway. I've got a thread on here somewhere about it. My friendly specialists ended up using someone they use on their own off-site road vehicles.
Unless..........someone has found a different way to do things since :)

Found my thread

You may well heat the same from a duff UJ with the noise being transmitted via the shaft into the dif. You also have UJ's on the half shafts. The UJ's can only be checked with all the wheels off the ground to release any wind up in the transmission.
