L322 Range Rover Lower tailgate catch problem

Hi there,
I have recently bought a 2003 L322 Range Rover. I have since noticed a problem with the lower part of the rear tailgate.

It appears that the latches don't properly engage when closing both parts of the tailgate. It means there seems to be quite a bit of movement once it's closed and locked.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know if it's easily fixable?

Thanks,
James

James,
I havent found the route cause yet but can get mine to lock now by manually lifting up the swithes above the 2 locking arms either side..

Hope this helps
ian

i had the same problem with mine, easy fix though. take out the two torque head bolts and remove the latch(it just slides of the cable end) then clean all the old ****e out, i used penertrating oil and kept working the latch to get all the crap out then i cleaned it with rag and re oiled it. workes fine now, dont over tighten the bolts because they crush the latch and make it stick. just keep working the manual lever when tightening so you know when you have reached the limit.
