Its right from the get go. Unlock car screen comes on start the engine screen goes off which has always done and then maybe 1min or 2 screen error comes on temp to high shutting down. You cant unfotunatly turn the screen radio off when you hit the power button it all shuts down. The battery is a better battery than the last one as I had battery drain for several years, but not with this new one.The car was supposed to be sold this year thats now changed. Diagnostic equipment is expensive but you make a valid point. I am guessing without insulting you that you dont have an answer for me. But do appreciate you being sensible in your replies. I have only been an engineer for 40 years (a few of them were working on car audio equipment) but what do I know. I do have a suggestion but I guess you will never know.

But as the info is now coming out, after you start the engine the screen doesn't come back up to life? if you dont start the engine can you listen to the radio for a while?
You are correct I don't definitively know but as more and more info comes out somebody else may. I am just working through when it does it at the moment. trying to understand the whole picture is the first half.
Incidentally mine doesn't go off when I start car and can turn off the screen with radio on (2011 though).

The screen has always done that. So I wouldnt no if that was a fault from buy the car 4yrs ago. Look I appreciate your help I will solve this problem. But unfortunatly wont share my findings on here. Again Thank you for your help. Stay safe....

I've learned to just stop trying to help and wait for the "I told you so" moment
@backinblack just out of curiosity can you turn off your screen and radio still on, just trying to work out if there was a change and when. I understand you have an 05, but I wouldn't have thought there was much change between a 09 and an 11.

My 2005 can blank screen whenever I want to from home screen option. Great for night driving.

Mines an 05 with the touch screen. I just press the button for voice command and say "display off" or "screen off" then "display on" or "screen on" ( not done it for a while so can't remember exact wording.
And yes the radio still plays. I tend to do it more when reversing onto my drive cos as @Tricky of York says they are bright at night.
I'm pretty sure you can set a brightness level via voice command as well.

OP can't because the system switches off completely so not able to take commands. Which is lucky for him as it stops his dash from melting.

I really shouldn't make this post, as it draws attention on another member, but feel really strongly about this. This type of thread is exactly why one of our nicest, kindest , most helpful members , has stopped visiting this site. He is a loss. Whereas the OP is just a loser.

Something tells me it won't get fixed with our help. Oh ok I'll help, new head unit, new CD player, new amp, new satnav, new phone module, complete rewire (bored now) may sort it
A bit more than £10 diagnostics fee but he knows best.
Fortunately the greatfull ones (me included) make this site worthwhile.
