L322 Mileage Error!

After many months of trouble free and happy motoring in my 04 TD6, I knew this day would come. I went to Halfords this morning to buy a Belkin Handsfree and Iphone FM transmitter, so I could listen to my tunes on the way to Lakes today. I plugged the transmitter in to the front 12v socket. Nothing happened. I searched for the fuse and found it in the boot no.71.
I pulled it to find it blown. So I used the spare 20amp fuse from the fuse box. It blew that straight away. The ignition was off as I had the keys in my hand.
I went back into Halfords and bought a box of 100 assorted fuses (always handy with 2 landrovers in the family). I basically blew 4 further fuses, even tried a 30amp.

I went back into the cabin and checked all the 12v sockets. I found the one in the centre glove box (totally forgotten about this). It had a mint imperial and a penny in the bottom of the socket. This was the short. I removed it and replaced the fuse and hey presto, the transmitter worked...... Supertramp all the way to the Lake District, much to the dismay of the missus.

However half way into the journey I looked at the fuel gauge and noticed that the mileometer was showing 999999!!!! I was baffled. I tried switching if off and on but no change.

I have disconnected the battery and checked the fuses. Its a head scratcher! After a quick search on here I couldn't find anything relating to this error.
I was looking to change the car for a RR Supercharger or X6. It's not going to sit well with the glasses guide having nearly a million miles on the clock.

i know with older cars(p38) if you change the speedo pod for one with a lower mileage then it will revert to the correct mileage on the car! not sure if yours is the same???

i think your model should be compatible with obd2 software so you should be able to correct the mileage with the correct cable and software!

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I think owning Range Rovers is great fun. It keeps you on your toes. I used to get mad with the problems. Now I just laugh!

I know the feeling. Sometimes that's all you can do!

Keep fitting and blowing fuses has produced voltage spikes on the power supply which has corrupted the memory in the computer. You should be able to reset it if the memory has not been destroyed

It seems you are right. I got in the car this morning after leaving the battery disconnected all night in the garage last night and fired her up this morning, and was greeted by the correct mileage. All working as intended.

Went to a steam rally in the sport today, and picked up a puncture. ARRGGGHHH it's never ending.
