L322 leaking manifold ??

Went to garage today to get exhaust checked. Suspect either leaking gasket or cracked manifold on L322 SC 4.2.
Question is as the car heats up to normal temperature the fluff fluff noise goes away so I'm thinking gasket as metal expands the gasket is being sealed. What's the thoughts on this from experience and how difficult is it to remove the manifold. Left side one that's leaking.

A crack in the manifold can also quieten as the manifold heats up and the metal expands.

As @Datatek could be either, i have an electronic stethoscope that is really useful as if i remove the pointer it just has a microphone and can tell where the leak is coming from or at least narrow it down.
There is also a way to check with a laser thermometer or you may be able to get an inspection camera in to see the exhaust leak soot.

i have never worked on the Jag 4.2 so not much help to you i'm afraid, if you give me your car i will gain experience and your problem will also go away and become my problem for which there is no charge, i will not be returning your car afterwards though.

Thanks for all the replies. If it helps garage mentioned a lot of soot at the back of the manifold. I have a stethoscope so will give that a try. And sorry holiday chicken I don't think you will be getting it .

Different car/engine (Rover V8 4.6 Petrol) but I had the rat-a-tat-tat from hell that you really heard most when alongside the high concrete divider between the carriageways on the M25 while crawling along in the rush-hour.
I was told it was likely to be the expanding concertina-joint in the exhaust manifold. So I looked online and a new LR one was >£450.
A "used" one was procured and fitted and FCUK-ME it was even worse and the concertina was blowing more than a lady of pleasure on a busy Friday night.
Changed back to the original manifold but with gaskets from the "used" manifold and the noise abruptly stopped. Leaking gasket.
When the old gaskets were inspected there was a clear "soot-line" out of one (on the block side of the gasket, down towards the ground and not visible when assembled.
Not really relevant I guess, but a good story nevertheless.

Personally I think it's the gasket and will probably look at that first. Garage mentioned that they will price up for the worst and hope for the best

Well replacing the gasket is the cheapest option and you can check the manifold while its off.
