hi i was recommended by a friend to use this site. i have a 2003 range rover td6. the air-suspension fault which is no big deal this can be re set but the real problem is that its been in with LR dealer for 5 days and they can not connect the re set the fault via the diagnostics? they have done a point test everything seams fine but will not connect LR head office apparently have said start replacing the ABS unit then the next unit. but this will cost us thousands the dealer have said. anyone else come across it not connecting to the car?

help would be appreciated as i just have not got this kind of money cheers in advance adrian.

Adrian

What you have written
they can not connect the re set the fault via the diagnostics? they have done a point test everything seams fine but will not connect LR head office
Is a bit non sensical

On a 2003 L322 there are a dozen or more independant ECU's connected to to DS2 diagnostic data bus. You only need a diagnostic tool to connect to the bus to talk to any of them,

Are you saying that they cannot establish communications to any of them?

sorry they say they can not connect to the car at all to diagnose anything, what questions should i ask them tomorrow?

as i found this strange as well they have had all the top of the dash off

hi just an update been down to land-rover and this is what happens

they plug the diagnostics in and the machine does not recognise the car at all and then the machine goes dead

anybody any ideas? thanks adrian

the machine does not recognise the car at all and then the machine goes dead

Can you possibly elaborate a bit more. TBH you ain't giving much descriptive info for me to work with here.

For that year car they should be using a Testbook or T4, both of which are powered by mains and are not really capable of being killed stone dead by any car no matter how screwed up it is.

You say, not recognised, in what way, no response at all, response that made no sense to the Testbook.

Have they checked power and ground to the OBDII connector etc.

Are they getting some comms and if so from what ECU's.

hi thanks for the reply its at the main dealer Stratstones so i am assuming they are using the correct system its not a a local independent.

this is what they told me they can not communicate with anything on the car it just will not recognise it. it not communicating with any interface. no response at all

we have the car back now how do i check the power and the ground which pins shall i check.

i know it not more information but thats all i am being told any help is appreciated how little i can start by checking the power and ground then work from there now i have the car back

thanks BBS cheers

The Testbook / T4 is a bit akward in that although the main unit powers from Mains Etc, the vehicle communications interface gets power from the OBDII socket. The T4 interface does have an LED to indicate it is getting power, but the Testbook interface does not, which always struck me as about dumb ass backward and cheap skating as you can get. First mod i ever do is to dril a hole in the casse and put an LED and dropper resistor in (total cost less than 10 pence) then if i plug into a vehicle with no power on the OBDII i dont even waste time by trying comms.

On your L322 the pins of interest are 16 for 12 Volts power, 4 and 5 give ground and 8 is the Data line for all the DS2 bus ECU's (Thats everything except the EMS and Gearbox) The EMS and gearbox are on pin 7. BMW also put an IGN feed to pin one but thats not used.

Frankly anyone with absolutely any experience on a Testbook / T4 at all, would first check the power and ground on the OBDII socket. Ideally you need to try it with something that draws a bit of current like a Bulb as sometimes the earth can be iffy and it reads fine with a meter but as soon as you try to draw some current it dissapears.

If Power is fine, then its down to the data bus wire on pin 8. This goes to a junction point that then splits it to several ECU's. It could be you have an open circuit between the OBDII connector and the junction point.
You would pick this up by not having continuity between pin 8 and any ECU's DS2 connection point.

It is possible however that you also have a short to battery voltage or ground somewhere on the DS2 bus wiring or its is unlikely but still possible that an ECU has gone faulty and is jamming the bus preventing any comms over it. For that you need to satrt isolating the ECU's on the BUS.

is there anyone in the doncaster area that can help with this willing to travel thanks adrian as i am at a loss or does anyone know all the locations of the ecu so i can isolate one at a time cheers:(

Here is what I found today

There is power to point 6 for 12 Volts power, 4 and 5 give earth.

Pin 8 I was going to test continuity between this and the EAS ECU but don't know the pin to try?

The air compressor works as if you put a feed to the pump in the back where the spare tyre is it comes on, and there is power and earth at the eas ecu

How do I test between each ecu to check the bus wire could I try a cable between the eas ecu data point to the main ecu or bcu but which port would I take it to

Thanks adrian

Just a further update

Tested pin 37 EAS ECU to pin 12 on the BCU ok\
Tested pin 2 EAS ECU to pin 36 ECM ok
Tested pin 20 EAS ECU to Pin 37 ECM ok

Should I be getting anything from the OBD as looking on the schematics I can not see any cheers adrian

this was looking at the rave pdf cheers

if you have got a chipped car the computers cant always read the fuel/air system (this happened to me on a chipped petrol one)...

Eight years ago, you are estto start a new thread with your own problems

That’s a pleasant response, seeing as people have these problems and never post the fixes, it would be helpful to know! I have posted a thread with my own problems. I did not post my problems in here, simply asked if it was fixed.

Jeez.

No need for attitude. A quick check would show you , you haven't much chance of a reply from adrian , as it it is 9 years and one day since he was last here.
Good luck with your issue, someone will probably help in your own thread, but try to play nice ;)
