Hey guys,

I'm after some information regarding rebuilding a td6 gearbox.

The TC has fully gone on my RR (no drive forward and reverse) it started playing up when the box got hot, got the fail safe error message, and goes into limp mode.

The last time it did it, the error came up but then it felt like the "clutch" was slipping very badly, broke down then now got no drive at all... anyway.. also my alternator is only sending about 11.5v (not sure if related)

Im after some info about the best action plan...

Ive got no experience with these auto boxes, I've done a few diff swaps on Renault f4r clio 182 + megane 225 boxes but anyway im happy to remove the box and really happy to learn to rebuild the box, just ideally would like to see a technical manual to see what the jobs like...

So yeah any information on the above would be great, sorry about the long story its just back ground details.

Its had new oil and filter and a new shofter motor that i can see from previous invoices.

You should have about 14.8 volts from the alternator. As everything is electronic, you might be well advised to sort that first as the problem may just be lack of volts.

I would of said the same thing up to the point the car started to feel like it was slipping in gear, and then now has completely no drive, but yes out of caution I will fit a new alternator first for sure

The torque converter lock up clutch is a known failure item and a stupid design with a slipping friction clutch as part of a 2 stage lock up. Designed to fail IMO. It's often the crap from that that fecks the gearbox. However with low volts to the ECU & solenoids, who knows what symptoms you might get?

The only electronic input to the TC would be for the LUC, but the box certainly uses electrickery c/o solenoids.

As advised, you really do need to fix/replace the alternator first, then see.

edit. Just read Datateks reply.........it's like he was spying on me as I wrote.;)

Search the www for the GM5 gearbox teardown by a chap called RRPhil (Bemble as he is known on here) - whilst he does the ZF box for a living he did do a teardown of the GM5 box to for curiosity purposes.

Ah excellant, I will do that, thanks for the help.

Alternator removed today not a bad job, part arrives tomorrow°

Lovely thanks, would ideally like a manual to as would be interesting to see what tolerences my box has kept to over the passed 110k

Will do another search for that.

Whos recommended for things like clutch packs, gaskets and recon torque converters?

Planned obsolescence at its best with the L322 ;) :D:rolleyes:

Love the sig pic HB.....

It was a toss up between that one and this one below..
