Hi,
Did you ever get this fault sorted, and could you point me in the right direction. my Range Rover l322 is also hunting at approx 1800RPM with a dull drone above the normal sweet sound of the the V8.

this seams to stop as soon as you press the accelorator, but it unfortunate that this drone is at the speed limit arround my place of 30 and 50 mph.

Help anyone

cheers

How many rpm is the speed fluctuating by? If it's only a couple of hundred each way then, at this vehicle speed, it could be the torque converter LUC switching.

Check the breathe pipes which fail will show as lambda faults on the ecu test very coman

hello

2002 4.4 engine is hunting at around 1800 rpm any ideas what this could be

cheers lee
lee remove the top engine cover and look at the back of the engine their are 2 breather pipes that run from the inlet manifold and the cam cover to an oil seperator these can become perished flat and become rotten and holed therefore drawing in air which can cause uneven running
this problem is not just range rover i have seen this on the bmw x5
the 2 pipes are about £45 , slightly cheaper from bmw than land rover
also the plastic valve that the pipes connect to on the inlet manifold can crack and give the same fault
to make it easier to get to the houseing for the cabin filter is held in place by 2 nuts take them off and slide the whole lot out and you have loads of room
this will not show on a fault code scan but stil might pay to get it done :)
