Bang as in bounced off something or bang as in something internal gave up?

I have owned a few M62 powered vehicles and have driven them all very hard, and never known of one to go pop before....

Intrigued to know what happened, as it may help us all spot potential issues.....esp. me as I currently have an M62 powered 740 as well.....

Thanks for links, the last one at £1200 we got offered it at £900went all the way up Yorkshire to hear it run said he would take it out for today when we phoned up this morning he wouldn't answer the phone but then text us saying it was sold for£1200 looks a dodgy place they denied having a range rover when we got there as we dealt with the owners son on the phone when he spoke to him on phone he suddenly had one and opened a locked shed with it in .when asked why he would scrap one in such nice condition he said it had fault on gearbox there was no number plates on it,I don't think it was the one in the photo it smelt of a stolen one.
Anyway been offered a BmwX5 4.4 v8 M62 engine will this fit straight in.atb Ed

it MUST be a L322 M62 as there were changes made to the stock engine to suit the Range Rover...most notably the front diff casing is part of the sump on the L322
As saint says, the X5 lump isn't a straight swap for the L322, he will be able to tell you if you can swap cases around with your original unit to make it fit
