L322 2004 - Key Won't turn (no steering column noise)

I'm having intermittent problems where I put the key in the ignition and it won't turn. There are no clicking noises from the steering column. After trying for about 5 minutes inserting and removing the key, leaving the key in the ignition etc.. and trying the spare key, usually it will decide to work.. The steering column then unlocks as normal with the normal sound and I can start the car. Its done this say every other day for the last 2 weeks. Battery charge is good and i've replaced the battery in both remotes.

I know there are a lot of posts regarding steering column issues relating to key not turning, but in my case there is no clicking whatsoever from the steering column and thankfully after a few minutes trying each time it has suddenly worked..

Help or advice appreciated.

Have a look at the key part sounds like the sensor is not picking up the key, someone else had this recently but cant remember who.

Try using some locksmith's graphite powder.

There was a video on YouTube about this problem, but it leaves the car without the security ..
