L322 2003 model remote key issue, any ideas?

Hi All

I've had a few issues with my remote key in the past but they have been battery related. (I think)
This time both my keys won't lock or unlock the car. The keys works fine in the lock and ignition.i don't know which one is the master! How can you tell?
It's driving me crazy, I've checked the fuses and the battery seems fine, I've done the whole on off on the ignition and then held down the unlock button, pressing the lock button three times....nothing...

Any ideas?

Also probably not related the steering wheel adjustment goes back and forward but not up and down...

Both seems to have come about after not driving the car for a few weeks..

All help greatly appreciated

Try this:
Reset Procedure for your key fobs
Every signal from the remote handset contains the transmitter identification code and a rolling code. The BCU checks
the codes and only responds if the signal is from a valid transmitter. During vehicle production, the remote handsets
supplied with the vehicle are initialised to set their individual transmitter identification codes and synchronise their
respective rolling codes with the BCU. If a transmitter loses synchronisation with the BCU, or if a replacement or
additional remote handset is to be used with the vehicle, the initialisation procedure must be repeated. During the
procedure, all remote handsets for use with the vehicle must be initialised.
Initialisation Procedure
1 Ensure the vehicle is unlocked and the driver and front passenger doors are closed.
2 Install a key/remote handset in the ignition switch, then turn the ignition switch to position I and back to position
0 in less than 5 seconds to put the BCU into the initialisation mode. Continue the procedure within 30 seconds
of turning the ignition switch to position 0.
3 Remove the key/remote handset from the ignition switch.
4 Press and hold the unlock button for a maximum of 15 seconds. During this time, momentarily press the lock
button three times within 10 seconds.
5 Release both buttons.
6 Successful initialisation is indicated by the BCU locking then unlocking the vehicle. If this does not occur, repeat
step 4.
7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all other remote handsets belonging to the vehicle (4 maximum). Begin the
initialisation of each remote handset within 30 seconds of completing the previous initialisation, or the BCU will
drop out of the initialisation mode and the complete procedure will have to be started again.
 
Thanks people...unfortunately no joy...I've also disconnected the battery and left it for twenty mins reconnected...tried all of the previous exercises still nothing....any ideas how you identify the master key? Alternatively anyone know an independent garage in the kent area?
 
Guys, tried all of the above now....nothing, the central locking works just fine, and by putting the key in the door and pressing the remote I can get the windows to all drop, but can't get the remote to operate the central locking..... Any further ideas, or is it a trip to the LR service deprtment:confused:
 
So the key operates the locks mechanically...

The key starts the car and unlocks the steering...

The car responds to opening the windows (it has two ways of doing this....press and hold the open button - Close is by holding the lock button....and also by holding the key in the door lock in the open position and likewise the close position)

So, when you tried the Window open test, were you pressing the button AND keeping the key turned to the unlock position in the door lock - if so the car is responding to the lock mech being turned and not the button....

If you pressed the button down and the key wasn't turned in the lock - this confirms the car is responding to the remote key....

If it is responding to the remote key and yet it is not unlocking the car, I can only assume the BCM and/or the Alarm ECU isn't issuing an unlock message to the door locks - either that and the ECU's are issuing an unlock signal but it is either not getting to the lock motors or the lock motors aren't responding to it....

A diagnostics may show an issue, but it is just as likely it won't

An LR dealer will have access to all the devices and gubbins to fully sync the keys to the car, and whilst it will cost you their time to do it, atleast you will know they are indeed synced and matched and it must be a mechanical/electrical issue or the BCM/Alarm ECU isn't responding...and nothing to do with the keys!
 
Cheers for that, much appreciated...by coincidence the steering wheel adjustment up and down also stopped working at the same time....reading articles seems like a common but expensive fault....how's the training going?
 
Seem to remember a while back you saying your always down the gym...the steering wheel adjustment works in and out but not up and down even in memory function...
 
Up until Bout 6 months ago, been lazy and work has been getting busier what with moving offices and trying to win more work, the gym has slipped....

Is it sloppy up and down or locked in one place? Sloppy means the drive mech has snapped...no moving at all could just be jammed...plenty on www.rangerovers.net problems and fixes page to detail a possible check or repair.

New Years resolution is to get back to the gym...I have no excuses...it is in our spare room complete with Smith Machine, attachments and cables, over 300kg of plates, plenty of bars and bells - a friend of mine and I kitted it out, he looks like a monster at the moment as he carried on and I slowed down...I now look like a monster munch in comparison!!!
 
Unfortunately its work which pays the bills!

The description from my missus was....started the car the steering wheel came out and fell onto her lap, she had to drive it home holding it up, now its stuck in position, so its not floppy now. Hope i manged to word that correctly:rolleyes:

The trouble is training at home its easier to get in and just relax, got a smith machine at home, try to only use it when i get in really late and its too late to get to the gym....
