My 2003 plate Vogue is suffering from an intermittent issue with the front offiside headlamp cluster.

I can’t quite tie down the circumstances but sometimes it will light, sometimes not. Classic case in point last night:

4pm started up, lights on, “bing” <check front lamp> warning; got out the car (yes, haha, I have fallen to the false error messages before!) and sure enough whole cluster is dark.
Had a bit of a flick around with the on/off switch.
Waggled a few cables at the back of the cluster.
Got a bit cold, and quite bored, so switched on the foglamps instead.
Bit of a drive around…parked up.
6pm started up – all fine.

I thought it might just be a one off but I saw two other early model L322s last night both with offside lamp issues…

This has happened summertime and wintertime…day and night (not that it should make a difference), hot start and cold start.

Only thing I can see is wrong is the sidelight appears dimmer than the nearside sidelight…so maybe it’s a dual filament and needs replacing? Either way somethings up.

Maybe...but not "loose" just crap? If it was loose I would imagine the lights coming on/off as I bump around...

How to diagnose? Just follow the wires to the chassis?

You may need to look at RAVE to locate the earthing point, remove it clean back to bright metal and replace. If it was a P38 I'd suggest looking at the BECM connections but I know nowt about the L322.
