L series intermittent EML light

I’m new to the forum as a member but I have had much luck diagnosing problems here in the past by reading past threads. I hope someone can help with my current problem.

Background:

2 weeks and 1200 miles ago "3 amigos" came on. Decided to ignore it.

1 week and 600 miles ago I changed the front brake pads

Last Sunday whilst 300 miles from home the prop shaft started chattering, I drove home, when I looked under I found a UJ that had split two opposing cups and spat out all of the needle bearings.

The freelander spent from Monday to Wednesday on blocks while I sourced some torx sockets.

Wednesday removed the entire propshaft replaced the UJ and reinstalled the propshaft, gave it a short test drive in town.

Now for the problem:

Yesterday when driving the EML came on but every time I lift my foot off the accelerator it goes out. Over the journey I noticed that the EML light came on if I held a constant revs for more than 8 - 10 seconds and still every time I lift my foot off the throttle it goes out. The light does not come on at tick over, in fact it needs to be doing over 1500 revs for it to happen. There is no real noticeable loss of power when the light is on.


Could I have knocked something whilst changing out the UJ?


My logic says it is the throttle control sensor what is your opinion?

Map sensor would be my guess

Check your exhaust for holes and check the condition of your air filter .

Those symptoms are consistent with the LP fuel pump giving up.

Thank you for the replies.

In the mean time the cam belt pully gave up the ghost and threw the belt.

Contemplating changing the head and replacing the belt.

Would the EML have been cause by cam belt?

When I started reading your thread I was thinking of a slack cam belt - yes it definately would put the lamp on.Reason being the engine ecu looks at the crank sensor output and the output from the needle lift sensor on injector #1.Using this info it controls the start of injection via the timing solenoid in the injector pump - basically closed loop feedback.With a slack belt or badly adjusted belt timing the ecu cannot get the start of injection where it wants it - on comes the lamp.
It didnt complain for no reason....
