Afternoon chaps, iv ordered a egr blanking kit off ebay for my L-series, what i want to know is when you fit the plates to the exhaust and manifold do you still leave the egr and cooler in place or does the kit remove these components? Also with the blanking plug does it block the small vacume pipe which went into the the egr valve?

cheers:)

i took mine out completely

ok cheers, is the kit designed to remove the parts completely or should they stay in place? I ask because it dont make sense to keep inop parts in the engine bay, also am i correct in saying that the bigger plate blanks the exhaust manifold, and the smaller one blanks the inlet manifold then the small plug blocks the small pipe from the egr and the steel pipe just connects the 2 hoses togther which were going into the egr cooler?

in my kit i got 1 big plate for the exhaust manifold one smaller plate for the inlet manifold and 1 tube this joints the 2 water pipes together then i just used a small ball bearing and used a bit od grease to put it up the vacuum pipe

ok thanks thats how i had it in my head to fitting it, did you notice a difference to your hippo after fitting? iv also ordered a decat pipe to be fitted at the same time

once the inlet manifold was clearly of as much crud as possible i found it was less smoky and felt more responsive on the throttle because the gunk inside wasn't blocking the air flow

no worries can get photos of what mine looks like now its fitted if you wanna see before you start

lots of penetrating oil on the exhaust/egr bolts mine were a right nightmare

Hi Guys,

I'm shortly blanking the EGR on my XEDI - have the parts - just need the time and bit of dry weather.. Will get the penetrating oil going early! Will let you know if I find any nasties!

Cheers!

Brilliant thanks mate that gives me a much better ideal how things should look. That's really helped me out. Good effort Matt 10/10

Those pics are great! It's the next job now -changed the Master and Slave cylinders today! Penetrating oil at the ready!

Good you found the time did u get a decay or u knocking the middle out of the current one
I brought the decay pipe off eBay as well as the the egr kit, I'm gonna fit the decay sometime this afternoon when I can be arsed. The egr kit was really easy to fit except the hex bolts on the exhaust manifold where a bit of a pain in the arse to remove, but your pics helped out alot Matt. You can already tell the difference in the hippo already with the egr blanking the turbo spools up much quicker and has a result the car in whole fells faster, I'm taking it on a 115 mile journey up the m5 tomorrow morning so lets see how it fairs on the motorway. What a bargin mod to do for just £8 I highly recommend anyone with a l series to do this mod.

Mission fail! Tried to undo the 4th nut on the other side of the cat and bloody rounded the nut off looks like its angle grinder time

I am just looking to do this EGR Blanks on an lseries. Am i correct in thinking that you remove the actual unit?

The upper one seems simple to take off (first pic), the lower one (second pic) however looks like right pig its proper rusted up onto the exaust looks like il have to drill them out

So im assuming one blanker goes onto the exaust and one goes onto the upper inlet manifold

Sorry if this is a stupid question

All you need to do is slip a thin piece of steel plate under the pipe flange, drilled for the screw holes. This will stop the exhaust gas flowing to the intake.
