L-series 112 / 114 tooth differences

here's an odd one that no-one seems to be able to answer


with the l-series as i understand it, the very early ones had 114 teeth on the cambelts where as the newer ones have 112 teeth, mines 112 teeth,,

ive got a new engine coming tomorrow but uncertain as to whether its the 112 / 114,

i was planning on a straight swap using the remains of mine and just using the new block!

if there is a tooth difference will this cause any issues with parts fitting like the fuel pump, alternator, aircon, power steering, ecu etc?
 
You would need to contact L/Rover service with engine number to make sure, but if it's a brand new engine I would bet on 112, but I would not take chances with anything like cam-belts.
 
Technically it doesn't matter which one is used, so I was advised by an independent. As long as the tooth pitch is right then a slight difference in the belt length means that the tensioner has to take up the slack.

It doesn't affect the alternator, power steering air con compressor or coolant pump. It drives the cam shaft and, in-directly, the fuel pump.

It seems strange why there are two belt sizes available though....
