Went to Kwik Fit today to have the rear box replaced on my TD4 – Yes I know I should have done it myself but….

“Your next mate” the fitter declared. 50 minutes later it was put on the ramp. Then it took 30 minutes for the box to be fitted. Not that I got the car back because the kid that had worked on my car decided to slope off and make a private call on his mobile leaving my Freely sitting six feet up in the air.

Another 10 minutes passed and I mentioned to the manager that I would like my car back because it looked finished, He then advised me that it was still on the ramp as it needed two new tyres on the back as the tread was under 3.5mm (3.2mm actually) and “You can’t drive those 4X4’s anywhere with low tread”. He quoted £459(fitted) for two Michelins or £200 for Falcons. When I advised that I did not want economy tyres and declined his generous offer for the Mich’s, he immediately knocked £59 off the £459 provided I had them fitted today.

Eventually, he went off to find Nokia boy, I paid £93.05 for the fitting of the Bosal box and went on my way. Not far up the road, I decided to check their work and as I could feel a small blow on the join I went back.

Up onto the ramp again and copious amounts of what looked like white decorators caulk was splattered around the join and then with his mate under the car, Nokia boy proceeded to wind the revs up to the limiter to check if it was still leaking. After I hauled him out of the car and asked him what the f**k he thought he was doing, he declared it sorted.
Fortunately the manager was watching and checked it for himself – Yep, it was still blowing.

Anyway the manager apologised for the abuse of my engine and removed the box himself, cleaned the joins and fitted it properly. He then offered me a few more ££’s off of the Michelins and promised that he would be having words with the “fitter”. I left with my existing tyres in place and a vow never to visit Kwik Fit again.

Don’t forget, “You can’t get better than a Kwik…….” Yeah Right

Good old **** fit. only for the stoopid or desperate. Glad you learnt your lesson. Write to head office. Might get a discount for next time.....

i got my rear box supplied and fitted for £41.50 from a local garage, maybe it's not the same kind of quality you got from quick fit but i got a 2 year warranty with it
that will do for me.
Kwick fit are a bunch of rip off cowboys who think they are mechanics but in
fact they seem to forget they are actually fitters and not very good ones at that.
As for your tyres there is DOUBLE the leagal amount of tread on them most likely see you through the winter!

I avoid them like the plauge:mad:

kwick **** and other similar places are famous for there upselling. "well sir if you are having 2 tyres it is advisable you "have all 4 changed.....I would advise the tracking to be done on your 4 new tyres to prevent premature tyre wear....whilst doing the tracking sir we found you needed 2 coil springs but its always better to fit 4 as they wear at the same rate...."

Wow, what a bunch of bull****. Not surprising though, chain garages are a shower of ****e - overpriced and with incompetant monkey's who don't give a rats arse about your motor.

Your far better going DIY mate, servicing is a piece of ****. Even cambelt changes aren't horrendous. I spent about £200 on tools and I've got everything I can possibly need for servicing - and they have seen me through a HGF though I had to borrow one or two special tools.

What a load of bollix. Complain like stink, you have every right to.

I made the mistake of going to a Kwik Cr*p some years ago for some front tyres on a car, it was late on a Sunday morning and it was the only establishment I could find still open. Eventually car was on ramp and wheels removed and was told that the shockers were leaking and needed replacement. I reminded him it was there to have some tyres fitted and not for a f*c*ing MOT test. The origonal shockers were still there 5 years (and 4 MOT's)later with 185k on them when the car went to the scrappies due to body rot.

I would be really surprised if it isn't tacit company policy to make problems sound more serious than they are and try to scare people into buying parts they don't need.

C*nts.

Suspect it's not company policy but a bonus system that subsidises crap pay encourages it! I've seen some right horror stories:)

kwik fit, **** pit, should be on rogue traders........cowboy fitters, useless bunch of tyre dressers. I learnt my lesson years ago when some spotty faced **** with an air gun refused to check the torque and stripped the thread, after I said use my torque wrench and locking nut.

many many years ago back in the eightees i took my cortina as it was a sunday and my spring had shocker had gone and i needed it next day for a long trip so they got shocker of and i knew it was going to be a hell of a job because everything was rusted up.
while they were at it i had the exhaust done as it was also rusty and looked like it would fall of .two weeks later and i had to take it back because the exhaust was leeking so up on the ramp and the "fitter" said you need some front shockers as they are leeking ok I said get them done , to which they did .and when they presented the bill i presented them with there Gaurantee they were gob smacked .and it was the same "fitter"

5x Pirelli Scorpion STR fitted fer £571. :)

Lots of tyre garage staff are on bonus schemes. Its helps motivate them to upsell. That’s where you go in for something and they find something else they could also do, and the company also profits as they’re doing more work. This backfires when they commit to do the work but can’t get the agreed cheaper parts, or it’s paid for online and they still can’t get the agreed cheaper parts, so they have to go to main dealer and pay for more expensive parts. Problem is the employee may suffer if he has to give a refund. So to save his own bonus money he spends the companies money on dealers parts which cost more when you paid for cheaper ones costing less. Company dun’t make a profit but he gets his bonus which is good enough for him. Have seen this done, but not on my hippo. You can choose main dealer parts if you wish. They just charge more as they cost more to buy.

Only good for tyres in a hurry.

They ain't me me mechanics they are just joe bloggs kits who have learnt on the job. The only Certs they get are from kwik ****

I wouldn't even trust them monkeys with my tyres. Wouldn't trust them to do the nuts up to the propper torque.

Just don't.

Kwik fit brake specialist! Lol, at 17 they're special. Quick course and they know how to do everything that you normally learn over a full apprenticeship. Hmmm new pads back to front, did you know you need 4 tyres and 4 shocks? Arse my wheels just fallen off:( rather you than me:D

Early 80's I used to work in a small indy tyre place (another recession)not a bad place to work until they where bought up by the consortium then all pay was bonus from sales a right load of ****,no bonus if you sold a courier tyre but if you sold a set of pirelli you were ££'s in the tyres where made by the same company ffs.
The only time you could make a wage was on fleet hire,no puncture repairs had to have a new tyre, not 1 but 5 even if the spare was brand new and the others had done 2 miles, nice little earner selling a set second hand for cash.It had to be done family to feed.
What killed it completely for me was when they stopped you having the customer in the workshop and couldn't show them when you had got a genuine concern.
Thank god the building trade picked up again and I could get back to reality ;)

I used Kwik Fit once............. i had an old ford sierra that needed new brake shoes on the rear wheels, bought the shoes/new springs but couldn't get the rear wheels off the hubs! So i took it for a 'free' brake check at Kwik Fit :)

Took the guys an hour to get the rear wheels off :)

They told me that the brakes were 'DANGEROUS' but i already knew that and they quoted me £350 to sort em out! The guy did notice the new shoes in the passenger footwell and advised me NOT to try and fix them myself!!!

Told them i'd think about it :)

Drove the car home and sorted the brakes :D

Never been back to Kwik ****!

Daz
:D :D :D

brilliant thinking...should of done that with my last car. I sat there for fecking hours with a slide hammer in a **** or bust situation....

Tell them you need a tyre repaired and they will have every excuse why it's dangerous and the hole is in a very difficult bit which means a new tyre. ****ers. Repairing a tyre is a doddle.
