Hi all, just a quickie my series 3 2.25 petrol drives really well. Ive just done the brakes, UJs and serviced the handbrake. Everything is tight and don't have any clonks on taking up drive etc.

When I'm coasting to a halt there's a weird clonking sound that seems to be coming from the transfer box. Its there just before you actually stop when out of gear. Im thinking it could be the handbrake as I've adjusted it so there is very limited play and works well but....this noise only happens after ive been driving for a bit say 5-6miles. Its definitely linked to the rear prop as you can here it 'knocking' as the prop rotates.

Im thinking its the handbrake binding slightly once its warm? Any thoughts / advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Rich

Try de adjusting the handbrake, see if it stops. The transmission brake works fairly well with quite a lot of play in the lever, over adjusted and dragging may cause damage.

Thanks Turboman, thats what i'm thinking. I wait until tomorrow and go for a drive to see if the handbrake drum gets hot. I de-adjust to to see if there is any improvement
