does it look like this

I would take the prop shaft off to see if that stops the thumping, check the joints and the VCU. The service light sounds like it could be the hill descent light, see if it is switched on.

What colour is the HDC lamp?

The thump could be the vcu mounts, or the rear diff mounts.

cheers mate, the rear diff mount is were the prop shaft enters,is that correct mate, and if so removeing the shaft would that solve it,i was thinking if it was that, the back drive shaft enter it as well so driveing on 2 wheel drive would that still not create the same noise.

Removing the propshaft would not necessarily stop the rear diff from thumping if the mounts were worn.

I thought that mate, ive not got the right tools and am working on the ground, wer the back end of shaft enters i cani get they wee star bas...ds aff,if i was to remove that rear diff what else do i have to do,IE drive shafts, anything else and would i need to remove the prop shaft if i went that root, the noise i was getting i would say it would be comeing fe rear diff, cheers

just get a bar or a big screwdriver in around the bushes and check if theres any play in em, why start stripping a car if theres no need:doh:
theres also a mount to the body as well that can snap. have a search on here m8. theres loads of stuff on here about all your problems:D
