Ballcocks!

Now my gearbox has died stopped moving forwards almost completely. Just spent a fortune on a rebuilt engine so can't afford a new gearbox, so ordered a 2nd hand one.

Does anyone rebuild these?

how long after fitting engine?,they arent too bad to rebuild if needed, if its just clutch pack A its just a matter of removing bell housing and pump housing, no full strip needed

The engine has been in a few months, so I guess he gearbox was the next weakest link.

Was told fluid was full of metal bits. If I rebuild it with clutch pack A, surely that won't be enough. All the crap has been through the torque converter.

it often is all thats needed apart from a oil flush ,but the metal bits might well mean other issues too

If it's the 4.6, it has the ZF4HP24, don't hear of many of those failing so a second hand one would be a fair bet IMO.

+1. Alot of V8's are scrapped due to engine failure so plenty of second hand gearboxes available. The HP24 is one component on a 4.6 P38 generally built to last (famous last words).
