Just checked the battery on my '02 TD5 and it indicates 12.45v! Should I change it or not? From the state of it, it looks like it is the original.

This all started when the M&S auto box lights came on! Reckons the electrics of the 'box is sensitive to low battery voltage!

I would get it tested by a local garage they will be able to tell you if it is OK or not. If you have to get a new one, go for at least 800amp cranking. Hopefully it will be the battery which should mean you don't have to replace your XYZ switch !

I had just done a trip of about 4 miles and had stopped at the local supermarket! The M&S lights came on when I restarted it! I drove home in "Limp Home" mode and a quick browse on the Interweb reckoned it could be any number of reasons with one being a sick battery. I checked it and as mentioned previously, seemed slightly low to me.

If the m and s light is coming on every time you start the car? Try hooking it up to another car on jumper Leeds b4 you try to start it . And see if the lights still come on . It might just be your xyz switch playing up . Does it come on more in the wet than dry . As water might be the problem

I was in a similar position last week. Get your battery drop tested, if it is ok then you need to get a code reading. If the battery is faulty then get a new one, mine was £115 for an 800 amp cranking rating. As a word of caution my battery was failing and so is my XYZ switch so I am going to have to pay for both ! Good luck
