I'd agree with Uncle Albert. Arc will just blow holes in the gauge of materials used in a vehicle.

If you want to stay away from gas welding (Oxy/acetylene or Oxy/propane) then the way to go is MIG or TIG.

I'm more into electrics so I'm not that up-to-date on welding but I have used arc on some bigger stuff, quarter inch steel chequer plate being the thinnest!
 
MIG gets my vote. an auto darkening mask, a 115mm angle grinder with 1mm slitting discs and grinding discs or flap wheels and proper gloves/gauntlets. Good luck
 
Cheers guys, really looking forward to it all...love gettings hands on. Her 2006 fiesta has been killing me as everything is behind stupid plastic clips, the front bumper needs removing to change a damnn bulb and everything else is so bogged down in trim and electronics that it's not worth the risk and that's just the basic stuff lol
 
I wish I had a trim removal tool £1.75, would have saved me a couple of hours the other day.

I'd stick that on the list especially if you going to pull the inside out for wiring or arch liners.
 
A set of multispline sockets will be needed.

Brake calipers need 13mm
Swivel ball needs 14mm multispline spanner
Brake disc needs 14mm multispline socket.
 
Circlip pliers and get the missus something new they tend not to moan as much when you go on a spending spree.....alternatively get rid of the missus more money for you
 
A good set of safety googles

boiler suit - leather working gloves - steel-toed boots - thermos cup

barrier cream for hands - latex / neoprene gloves

old watch cap or beanie - keeps the ****e out of yer head when you head- butt the inside of a wheelarch ...
