i have managed to get myself locked out after disconnecting the battery
with the key inside the car. then like a pratt i shut the bonnet with the
battery disconnected. i have the code but i assume this useless without
the key. what can i do apart from putting the window through.

Getting in is relatively easy - not sure how the P.M. thingy works but if you do P.M. me I will try to work it and tell you how to get in without damaging the car

get another battery, crawl under it, connect earth to chassis and pos to pos on starter. now with battery, connect and disconnect earth whilst trying the drivers door. if any locks are clicking then it should be opening em!

managed to get it sorted with the eka code. phew!!!
at least i know how to work that now.
all these problems started because i disconnected the maf switch again
the car struggled to keep running in idle and eventually stalled. when
i re-connected the car stayed exactley the same and all hell broke loose.
but now it all seems ok although it smells rich and i am definately using to
much petrol. how can the mixture be adjusted.

all so will the ecu need clearing of all the fault cosed i have now created.

Good Man!!....Take the car to a local garage and get them to stick it on the Crypton and do an emissions check.
The mixture is controlled by the engine ECU and is electronically controlled. It's a closed loop system using feedback from the lambdas etc.
Could be a faulty MAF but don't jump the gun..get the exhaust emissions checked first and see what the figures are.
Give it a good blast first and be sure that the engine is up to temp. before taking it in.

will do, could i have a crypton tune. i had 2 faults on the test book when i had it
plugged in the other day. air flow meter and oxygen sensors but they were reset.
i suppose they could just appear again but i cant keep shelling £40. i am getting
8 mpg. i do have a seperate thread on this entitled hse 4.6 excessive fuel cosumption
but despite lots of positve comments am still struggling for something concrete.

They can't "Tune" the engine becuase the fuel mapping is preset in the engine ECU, but they will give you a print out of the emissions which you can compare with the specs. in RAVE. If it does turn out that it is running excessively rich then there is every chance that either the MAF or lambdas are shot.
Diagnostics will clear faults but, if they are "Hard" faults, they will pop straight back up. Did they just clear the faults or did they recheck after, say, a road test to see if they were back up again. A multimeter can be used to check the voltage on the Lambdas which would at least go towards them as the cause of the problem. If they are reading lean then the ecu would call for a richer mix, if the MAF is faulty and only delivering a rich mix I would have thought that the engine check light would come on as the Lambdas would be having no effect

the faults were reset and the ecu was reset to factory settings. he did start it up and revved a few times and sais that they did NOT come back.
no engine light comes on apart from ignition start and goes out as normal
