Disco 2 Key won't turn in ignition switch

I had this problem on and off for a couple of years did the frequent clean and lube on the wafers. When I finally gave up I fitted a cheap alternative ignition switch. So now I have two keys. The original LR key only works the doors but obviously for the immobiliser signal they need to be on the same key ring when the key is in the ignition. Only issue I ocassionally get is I have to press the unlock button the fob a second time before the ignition will crank. Usually if I have unlocked all the doors with the fob. Been on about 3 years now without any other issues.
Hi, yeah I have the two keys on the key ring at the moment which has worked out alright so far but I'm still trying to find the time to get the original switch apart & file the wafers down & if that goes ok I'll refit it.

Yep.
Peeps say the fob only has to be on the same ring, but no it needs either to be much closer OR you have to press the fob a second time if you don't start the car before the immobiliser resets itself to "immobilised" i.e. about 30 seconds after you last pushed it.
AS you say, you get used to it.
I have been told I can use my Foxwell to disable the immobiliser to get around this, but haven't had the guts to do it as I don't trust any electrickery!;)
Hi Stan, I've been doing as you say start it within 30 secs. of opening it or I find you have to hold the case of the original key up against the cowling as close to the ign. switch as possible as it won't start with it just dangling on the key fob.
I don't want to disable the immobiliser but like you would be crapping myself trying (with my Foxwell):)

I find it easier to simply press the "open" button on the other key, as it's dangling there anyway! I've never had much success with trying to get it near enough to the ignition ring thing to make it work!
Recently my Disco has been playing up, typical, ran fine last 6 months in UK, now in France got various problems. Still drive OK though, just 3 amigos up and consuming more coolant than I would like. Apart from niggles like one of the catches for the propah LR dog-guard has bust, and I caught a piece of trim just above the rear bumper on a mate's gatepost!
always something to do. EH? So the feckin key issue is goin to have to carry on waiting!;):(
