Key Problems

Hi

Searched the forum and found nothing about this, so hoping some of you helpful people may be able to help me out.

Replaced the two batteries in the Key No.2 about a month ago. About two weeks ago, the remote lock/unlock would intermittently function and had to be EKA'd to get it to work. Seemed to be temperature related but I could have imagined it.

Now the lights don't work on the remote at all, EKA into car every time, and even that doesn't always allow the engine to be turned over?!?!?!

So with no lights on the remote I know the batteries need changing but why would good quality varta batteries run out so quickly. Anyone with any ideas?

Old stock batteries? Buttons being operated when the Fob is in you pocket flattening the batteries, I've had that problem. Corrosion on battery contacts in Fob?

Datatek and j the range

Thanks for that, but no corrosion visible on contacts, regarding the pocket thing, my Key 1 (before I lost it in a field) lived in my pocket for just over a year and never needed to change batteries just the rubber button mounts.

Old batteries might be an idea, I will take it back to the watch shop see if they can help. Haven't got my receipt, but you never know without asking....

Does the key try and stay connected to the BeCM erroneously?
Would long cranking times (as for 3 weeks out of 4 until fuel pump changed) drain it?
Why does the ignition not recharge it when in position II?!?!?

All these questions and more answered in due course (here's hoping)

I always use Sony or Panasonic CR2025 batteries.
Can't think how the Becm would keep the keyfob "Energised" as the exciter ring around the ignition switch barrel only prompts the key for a split second.

They're not rechargeable batteries are they? How's the ignition supposed to charge 'em? Its not a bad idea come to think of it, but unfortunately not the case here.

You're most likely bet is batteries that have run out of shelf life as Data said although, Irish, shouldn't the message centre have warned him to replace batteries in fob?
