EKA was only used on pre-2000 Freelanders, where the remote fob contained the immobiliser transponder. The ignition key was a flat hinged affair. After the 2001 update, the transponder was moved to the key (tear shaped key), the remote fob simply locked the doors and armed the movement sensors for the alarm.

The EKA was only needed for the pre-2000 key, because it was possible to loose the fob, but still have the key. All the EKA does is disable the immobiliser, so the car can be driven, should the fob be lost.

However after 2001, the immobiliser transponder is in the key, not the fob, meaning that a lost fob doesn't matter, and if you loose the key, you can't turn the ignition lock anyway.

So you can forget all about the EKA, as it's completely irrelevant to your year of FL1. ;)
