Hi All,

I have a 2001 Discovery 2 TD5 and I need to get a spare remote key for the car. I have check out some keys on Ebay 2 BUTTON REMOTE CASE SHELL FOB BLADE KEY FITS LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 TD4 TD5 | eBay and also LAND ROVER TD5 V8 FREELANDER DISCOVERY 2 BUTTON CAR REMOTE CONTROL ALARM KEY FOB | eBay. I live in Kenya and the dealers are charging about $500 just for the key and programming is extra. I was wondering I could purchase the keys from Ebay and then get it programmed. Can these keys be used to also disarm the immobilizer or do I have to get the key from the dealer?

I would highly appreciate assistance anyone can give me. Thank you.

U can get a spare remote used key, and a new blank blade which you can use to copy the original one then go to the dealer just to programm the replacement fob... the dealer must have T4 tester(or autologic) which is able to programm used fobs... (be aware) those keys from your first link have no internals in the fob, u must buy both, or buy the used one from the second link and u can get only the blade alone and put the fob on it. After the key will be programmed it will work as the original one(lock/unlock/disarm immobiliser etc)

Or, if you want the cheapest way, buy the cheap blank key, go to the dealer and ask him to set the BCU on "always disarm with key" mode and to deactivate the passive immobilisation with tester, then u can use the spare without remote function by unlocking manually(the other key will work as before). ... this way u'll harm the security of your car by making it easyer to steel.... you know what risk is this for you;)
