Hi All,
Freelander 1 yr2000
Bit of background 1st in case it is relevant.

In the last few weeks i have on a number of occasions had the dog in the car and nipped into the shop locking the doors with the key from the drivers door, last week one morning fob would not open drivers door, opened it with the key tried to start and battery was almost flat but did get it going. The battery is 2 yrs old and has a 5 yr warranty, did a decent run and it has been fine since, all through the previous much colder weather often left for days and started fine, did something drain it.?

Right the fault pressing the key fob I can hear the drivers door locking mechanism moving but it does not open, pressing a 2nd time opens the passenger door and tailgate.
Pressing to lock, locks all doors, the immobiliser light flashed rapidly for about 5 secs then goes to a steady blink.
Some times 1st press does nothing, press gain and it tries to open drivers door, next press opens remaining doors not drivers, it is almost as if 1st press did not happen. This is the same with both key fobs..

I have card with key number and a little grey tag with Lxxxx, . I believe putting this in the door and doing the right, left, right left key turns resets the immobiliser, anyway it made no difference.

I suspect a mechanical fault on the drivers door lock any other ideas pls.

cheers

Freelander 1 or 2 ? Otherwise could well be the the lock itself failed on the fob. Normally if the main battery drain flat the sequence 5 clicks on the fob to open and one lock press resets the imobiliser. Make sure driver door opens with the key as the rest does as you turn the key again for the rest of the doors. If the fob fails to open the drivers door but opens the rest it the lock unit. Make sure you get the correct one to replace for your age of the vehicle as the key has a small extender bar to the lock mechanism that can break if mishandle when removing old lock.

If the other doors are opening on the second unlock, then there's nothing wrong with the remote.
This suggests the drivers door actuator has failed, so replacing it should sort out the issue.

Thanks Nodge
but isn't it the same actuator that locks it? if so it could it be a mechanical fault or an actuator fault

The door lock actuator contains 2 motors, 1 does the super lock, 1 does the standard lock.
It sounds like the super lock motor is working correctly, but the standard lock isn't.
Yes the motors are used for lock and unlock, but it appears the unlock takes more power than the lock, which seems to show up a weakness in the motors when unlocking before locking is effected.

Hi all.

have done nothing about this yet but now the old gal has passed another MoT got a few jobs to do including this one. BTW due to lockdown 2020>2022 only 2000mls, she is on 156k and I did 86k in 1st 2.5yrs.

Looking at breakers for the actuator and a drivers side seat belt.(fraying)

Mine is a YR2000 3 door 1.8i, I am assuming for these parts any model 2000-2006 petrol or diesel will be suitable donors, anyone know if that is correct or should I stick to pre face lift ones.

Have been told parts MUST be from a 3 door as the front doors are longer on the three door, sounds logical. Found seat belt still looking for actuator

cheers

I had an issue with one door lock.
You can look at ebay, I find an used one there for less than 40.
Any front driver side lock for RHD freelander 1 will fit ...
Test is before removing the previous one ;).
Look at youtube there is many video on how to change it.
Use a little mirror to see what you are doing.
