Does the little red light flash when you press the button on the fob??

If it does...it could need syncing to the car...and depending on year, this could involve locking and unlocking using the key and pressing the respective button on the fob ...Mozz Smith knows the procedure very well, send him a PM on it.....or if it is post '99 it should 'EasySync' which involves just putting the key in the ignition and turning the ignition on...the red LED should flash as this is done to confirm the correct sync has been acheived. Of course the Fob battery needs to be good for this!

Either that or the RF unit in the rear has been disconnected to mask a battery drain issue....no biggie, just replace with the latest unit and reconnect the aerial wire....but the new RF unit is close on to £170-200 though!

Its a 96 both keys flash neather work but it does acept the code through the door lock
I was thinking possable reciver problem but would that cause it to need the code inputing each time?

Yes because it has not accepted the signal from fob if you open the door with the key you will automaticly be asked for eka when turning the ignition

Another thing are you sure its not just door lock have you tried opening with key putting in ignition turn you will be asked to press button or enter eka code if you have then pressed button on fob and it still don't work more than Likely rf reciver providing you have changed fob battery's and tried a resync of fob and tried close to rear drivers side window

Can you count 5 cylinders and see a big oil filter poking out the centre then yes but I wouldn't of thought so lol

If it has a Td5 engine it will be a can of worms. The BECM will not talk to the ECU for the Td5 so the ECU for the BMW M51 must still be there.
Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Sorry guys i got the wrong end of the stick
He told me it had the engine from a new disco so i asumed td5 but turns out its a 300tdi still seams it runs ok
Just wondering if that somehow has somthing to do with the remotes not working?

Crikey, if the BMW lump is regarded as a bit sluggish with 130+ horses, what's a TDi going to be like with 20 less! Have you actually purchased yet? If so, you might need to consider a move to Norfolk where it's flatter... :D

I would probably walk on this one.....if he said 'New Disco....' and it turns out to be a 300TDi he knows not what he is selling and no doubt is masking something....

the same applies to the comments on the TD5....depends on how good the conversion is....the P38 is a great vehicle that is unreliable.....add into the mix a non stsandard engine conversion and you are opening a potential can of worms.....
