key fob conversion

here is my key fob conversion,the blade was made from a freelander key which i got from my local timpsons (the key they cut was a bog standard key without the black platic] posted to a key service in orpington and they made the blade,i got them to make and cut 1 blade and make 2 uncut blades so i could get them cut local in case of any problem of it not fitting,but was ok now i have a spare fob

I bought one of those a while back. However the case I got needs to be glued together, which makes subsequent battery replacement tricky.

I am thinking of using a rechargeable battery solution, but other more pressing projects are getting in the way of that.

thats right i had to glue mine,seeing how long the battery last this wasnt a problem because the cost of these fobs it wasnt worth worrying about i will just buy a new one

That does assume you can manage to get it open without breaking the electronics inside.

i looked and do not see a problem i have already purchased a spare fob so now i have 2 working fobs and 1 spare fob

I superglued 2 nylon pillars inside the one that I bought, drilled and tapped the ends and fitted 2 countersunk allen headed black screws to hold it together. I can easily remove them to change the battery with no risk to the electricals inside.

that sounds cool pity there are no pictures would hae tried it

As promised, haven't taken key ring apart, but simply find a space for the nylon spacers, drill the cover to match, fit with screws, apply superglue to ends of spacers and clamp case together overnight. Then unscrew and fit contents. I also used my original freelander key by removing it from the plastic and filling a small channel in it with a round needle file, it then fit into the part shown and I reinserted the 'rollpin' which was holding the new key blank in place. The key blank that came with mine was too short ! The National Motor museum sticker is purely because I used to visit regularly, not covering any bodges !!!!

You can't make the screws symmetrical - there is simply not enough space inside......!!!!!!!
