Anyone bought a decent replacement key fob case recently? Just bought one from fleabay as the original had gone a bit holey, but the quality is a bit rum. Button plastic is very stiff, and when the circuit board is clipped in it's always transmitting!
Wasn't expensive, and could probably trim it to work but wondering if decent ones are available, short of going to a dealer.

UK supplier. The last one I got for the previous car was OK, but can't remember which eBay seller it came from - might still be in my buying history though.

My aura usually just breaks things.

Unfortunately , could be a dodgy batch that have been supplied,so wherever you get it from it may still be rubbish. Contact the seller and tell them may get another for.

Cheers

I did that, and got this:- "This is the only case that is available on the aftermarket parts market other than that you would need to go to a dealer." Looking at the other listings, they do all seem to showing the same picture. Weirdly, from the outside the unlock button is the usual oval shape, but inside it's a trapezoid! Oval inside and out on the original. Ah well, at least the rest of the car is going great!

Try looking for 'Valeo' product, they made the originals.

I have bought two new keys from ebay, both appear to be genuine Valeo with barcode label.

A bit more expensive than just a case unfortunately.

I have 4 different spare keys, all with different cases.

From an old rover75 key case , a new cheapo fleabay unnamed copy to a new copy LR case and although some may appear slightly harder to push, all work correctly.

None of the ones I have show a trapezoidal shape internally.

I think you just go unlucky. You can try pot luck again or tr what Peter has recommended and buy an original. I recently got an original D2 2nd hand key fob in excellent condition of fleabay for £9. All it needed was to be programmed. But as you are only after the case you could keep the innards as spare. The seller normally advertises one at a time , but the picture always has a luggage label attached to the fob case.

Cheers

I trimmed the button 'pillars' inside down a tad and it's OK now. The button side of the case should be 'co-moulded' (I believe the term is), with a softer plastic moulded onto the harder shell (like you see on toothbrushes), but I expect that adds a fair bit of cost to the process so doesn't happen with the aftermarket stuff.

I suspect we'll see a few more issues like this as original manufacturers stop making parts for our cars and they start to be made by third parties. I also have a MGB, and while it's incredibly well catered for given its age, the quality of some parts for that can be a bit of problem. Rubber bushes for suspension just don't last for example. I guess we need to let suppliers know we're happy to pay for good quality, as long as they don't take the p***!

All mine of which a couple are copies have the overmoulded PU "rubber" button section.

I think you must have been real unlucky and got the cheapo copy of a copy.

Cheers
