key and barrel

Hi Guys, I am having a problem with ignition barrel/key. Key is slightly bent and barrel looks worn. If I get a new key cut from the original blade can that then replace the old blade in the fob without coding.

Yes, you will have no probs doing that.

Just did a bit more investigating. Watched a clip on youtube and the the blades to be swapped both have a black plastic square at the base. Is this the transponder or is it just to anchor it inside the fob?

All the electronics are in the the button part of the key along with the battery.

If you can grip the blade in a vise, you should then be able to pull the fob off it. Be carefull, as the black plastic part on top of the blade is sometimes bonded into the fob case.

The worst case senario is you buy a new case for a fiver and snap your new blade into it, and then just swap the circuit board over from your old fob.
