I have a Kenlow fan which was fitted by the previous owner of my 300tdi defender 90.

The problem I have is that the fan essentislly bolts in to the radiator through the fins on the rad, however over time this is rubbing through and causing the radiator to leak.

Has anyone else experienced this and any fixes.

Any advice greatly appreciated

You can get a metal frame by RDX that mounts the fan stood off from the radiator to avoid this issue.

or go back to the standard fan and cowl

My fan was held on with bits of plastic through the radiator fins [previous owner]. When I replaced the radiator a month ago I had to cut the plastic tie things off. And there were only 2 of them anyway. I couldn't find anything decent so, short of time, I used electrical tie wraps, through the fins only and not round the water tubes. It works. It may end up being permanent unless I find a better option.

Big cheap universal16 inch fan, so big you can bolt the fan shroud to the rad frame.

It will quite possibly end up being run over by your rear wheels when it falls off after the 50th speed bump.

Doubtful. Looking through the package of receipts from the previous owners it has been fitted with plastic ties for around 8 or 9 years.

Sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick, I thought you were saying that you had to cut the plastic mountings that were originally used to fix the fan to your radiator, replacing these with tie wraps around the fins in the rad instead. This to me means the tie wraps are holding only to the thin fins that run horizontally off the water tubes that run vertically. These fins are very thin and easily damaged, they will rip off the water tubes.

My fan came with these, and I bought some more from Demon Tweeks... I think Rimmer Bros do them too.

They poke between the water tubes with discs and foam pads to spread the load - they've lasted 45K so far!
