Not sure how much better it would be on a car with 100,000 plus miles than an elastomer gasket. I think the jury is still out on that one.
My opinion (for what it's worth) is, on a worn engine any head gasket will only last for a time. In my case if that is another 30,000 miles then i would be happy as mine only does 5 or 6k per year.
From what I've seen most people with petrol Freelanders do smaller miles.
 
I always fit the elastopolymer gasket. There's still the occasional sealing issue with the MLS gasket. If the original gasket lasted 70K then the next elastopolymer will outlast the engine.
 
if the liners are all equally proud of the block - MLS.

If they're uneven, or level with the block, elastomer.

If I have to do it (or more likely when) I will be doing the same. That way (assuming no serious damage) I can order the part before taking the head off therefore able to do the whole job over a weekend.
