As title says perviously did the head gasket on my dads 1.8k freelander 3months ago which was a set off ebay but the gasket went also the head was skimm'd along with some damaged valves replaced any way along story short i have redone the gasket with a BGA gasket and shim from are local andrew pages and also got new bolts all the bolts were oil'd as it suggested in the book and was done to 20NM and 90degree 4times instead of 180degree 2times as this is what the BGA gasket suggested to do any way all the bolts were hard but still turnd apart from number 8 which i couldn't turn anymore after stage 4 which was the third time of 90degree and all was put back together and the engine seems to run pretty well and quiet how ever there seems to be stem/a fine spray of water going into the throttle body from the top pipe thats connected to it but why is this?? and i haven't checked to see if any of the cylinders are getting water into them as it is to dark now

and also all the bolt holes were checked to make sure the bolts would go in fully with no trouble to make sure it didn't give a false reading on the torque rachet

also my dad things the head may have been over skim'd what would happen if the head had been skim'd to much ???

any help or anything would be appreciated as i am loosing faith in the car now

cheers
saul

is this the small pipe from the inlet manifold to the expansion tank?

if it is, it's supposed to do that and nowt to worry about

There are lots of questions that need answers.
1 did it overheat?
2 what year is the car?
3 were uprated bolts fitted to a pre 2001 engine? If so was the strengthened oil rail fitted?
4 were steel head location dowels fitted?
5 were all the liners proud of the block by 1 to 3 thou?
6 how much was skimmed off the head?
7 once the engine was finishing was all the water that will have entered the oil system fully flushed?
I suspect not and what you are seeing out the pipe is the left over water steaming of.

1. never over heated in the 5-6years my dads own her
2. its a 1999
3. brand new bolts have been used the 2 times we have done the headgasket mate and nope was said i didn't need to change the oil rail how ever this may have been changed back in 2006ish when landrover first did the head gasket and skim'd the head
4.yep these were fitted
5.i couldn't say yes or no to this mate :/
6.couldn't really tell you to be honest
7. all the oil was drain'd and the engine was lowerd on the jack that was susporting it to get as much of the old oil out and was left a day to run out

i appreciate the replys :) all i can really say is that the stem/water is still coming out of the breather pipe this may be due to just burning off what was left just find it strange that there doesn't seem to be any coolant on the dip stick and no oil in the water and the car hasn't been driven since the headgasket was done the other day

cheers

When the latest HG was done, where had the gasket failed?
Was it at the fire rings?
What type of gasket was fitted last time? Standard or MLS?
If the engine wasn't fully flushed and simply allowed to drip out then there will be lots of water residue, this will take some time to clear ;)

to be honest mate haven't a clue all i no is there was alot of mayo on the rocker/cam cover in the throttle body and on the dip stick which is why we decided to change the gasket agen this week before it got any worse

but all looks fine round the fire rings and the head gasket had to be changed in july due to the car failing badly on emissions due to 2 broken valves which was sorted and the head was skim'd but the car has been slowly loosing water from july to now and everytime the headgasket has been done its been with the MLS with the shim

and the engine was warm'd up then all the oil drain'd but had the car running today for about an hour and coolant drops a little this could be it settling down i no :)

but i really appreciate the replys :)
