Clean filters are GOOOOOD!
To test if you need a clean filter:
take car for run to warm up the engine.
take out air filter.
drive car again.
if it goes like a bat out of hell it needed a clean air filter.
FIRST reason for "air filters" is to act as inlet air SILENCER.
Second reason is to stop pebbles and gravel reaching valves and pistons.
Third reason is to make sure only very fine dust (more or less harmless) gets through.
Taking it for a run with no air filter is OK, but may be impressively noisy!
