I have a 96' Automatic TDi XS Discovery and it won't start! The battery seems ok but the ignition lights are really dim' everything else seems to work ok. The relay assembly clicks and then the fuel injection pump buzzes when i try to start it nothing at all happens i went about 50 miles trip today then home then went to the shops got back to my disco then i tried to start it up as you do it turned over about half turn if that? then i got a buzzing and the ignition lights come on very dim? Has anyone any ideas cos' this is my 1st discovery and i'm not to clever on electrics also my alarm kept going off and my remote would not lock the disco or disable the alarm.
Regards.

it may be yer starter thats up the paddle creek, put yer head lights on then try to start it.. if yer light dim its either the starter or a bad connection either on the live side or more likely the earth.

Ty Guys but the battery is top notch could it be the starter relay? it's the very dim ignition lights that has thrown me off.it wont even turn over it's just dead. but for a buzzing sound sorry but i'm kinda dumb ere.
regards.

agreed. its most likely the battery or a bad earth lead.
just maybe the alternator is not charging?

Hi thanks but the battery is fully charged and all connections are good. the buzzing sound comes from the glow plug relay. i gave the starter a good hammering but nothing.

Hello Everyone.
Thank you all for your help i'm most gratefull. it was the battery i took it off and got it tested and a cell was down. it was odd because i had been all over all day and when i went to the shops and came back to it and it was dead no warning or anything.
Regards.
