Why do Disco owners only replace the down pipe (with a decat pipe) and centre sections of their exhaust and not the whole thing, is it simply because of cost?

Most Disco owners are replacing the downpipe, not because it is worn-out in any way but because they want to get rid of the cat. The fewer owners who replace the centre section with a straight-through pipe, do so to give a louder exhaust note.

Being a tight git who's handy with a welder, I just hacked my cat out and welded a bit of pipe in and the same with the backbox, never noticed any difference in power or mpg though.......

I changed the downpipe to de-cat for the increase in power, and straight through 'cos it helps smooth out the feel and alsi increases power/torque a little ... and 'cos I got it for a tenner.

The original cat had fallen apart and the flexy wasn't gas-tight anymore so needed replacement .. Some time, months, later the centre silencer had been well dinged off-roading and was quite flat at one end.

Didn't change tha back box 'cos it had nothing wrong with it, though i have also changed back boxes too in the past.

I was also thinking (at first) of replacing the center box.
But on here the feedback was that the centerbox gives 80-90% exhaust sound (noice), and 10%-20% that works on mpg/power (note: I'm not saying 10% of power increase).
Therefor I don't bother with it as the misses tells me it makes already more than enough noice like this :D
