well this e-learning did well dinnit!
why would summat goin open circuit cause a sillnoid to not shut?

Cos you'd still have a 12v power supply going onto the feed side of the relay or +ve side of the solenoid if its a direct feed from a connection so it stays open :p

But could be a short too ;) we shall find out when he does

read it 4 times now an still not sure how to take that!

yeah, the solenoid circuit could still be getting power, but as the ignition's off where it should derive its power from, and the headlights being switched on make it so yer cant turn it off, but it turns off when the lights are switched off.......

I may have missed/not bothered to read a few posts

If it turns on when the headlights are turned off then it would be getting a power feed from the stalk, so either theres a loose/touching/fused connection there causing some trouble or worn wires possibly.

Did he try to turn it off while the lights are off ?

for some strange reason when he got home he turned the ignition off took the key out and the engine kept running but turned his lights off and the engine shut off ....he repeated this 3 times with the same result

doncha just love them technical diagnostic answers:lol:
tis like sayin its shorted or maybe open circuit or wtf is a worn wire:rolleyes:

i'm presuming it turns off normally when the headlights are off, tho we dont have that information.

sussed it it all boiled down to the front sunroof leaking :eek::confused:

it was leaking and water was tracking down the inside of the windscreen pillar and onto the relays behind the drivers footwell kick pannel next to the accelerator

just a matter of removing those relays opening them up and drying them for a few hours on a radiator while we silicone sealed the fookin sunroof shut :D

found yet more friggin welding wants doing on the bugger aswell while we were at it aswell
