Disco 2 Just got a Disco 2 a little advice please.

Hi all. I've just bought a Disco 2 as my Defender chassis swap is taking a tad longer than I anticipated so I need a tow vehicle and winter round the corner I need another motor. As I'm not one to pay full whack for anything I bought one which needs a few jobs. Nothing to major (I hope). There is a few things needed for the MOT one of which I'm not looking forward to is the XYZ switch. The reason I'm calling out to you all is the rear chassis is mint at the moment and I've just cleaned it all up to double check. Now clean I just wondered what I can do to protect it and what products can I use. Any advise would be great. Thanks in advance

I would give the chassis a good covering in Waxoyl, make sure you get it INSIDE the chassis too as they often rot from the inside, out.

Cheers robbew86. I've pressure washed the hell out of it today. Is it worth painting first before the wax just to tidy it up?

Hi Defenders of, when I bought my Discovery it had been used as a Chelsea tractor so the underneath was like new, so I cleaned it down well then Waxoiled it, and as you've already been advised spray the inside of the chassis. This can be messy but we'll worth it. I've had my Discovery 7years now and the underneath still looks new with no advisories on the MOT's.

I gave mine two coats of hammerite beforehand. Figured it would only help.

The black looks very nice when sprayed on, not keen on the clear stuff myself.
I used a 5litre can and a waxoyl sprayer (small plastic handled thing which simply screws onto the top of the can, I found that great.
I placed the can of waxoyl in a boiling bucket of water for a while to thin it down a bit, it's very thick and gloomy stuff straight out the can.
I've heard You can also add a little while spirit to thin it down a bit.

Also, Don't do it with any cars closely parked next to the D2 (unless it's your worst enemy) 'coz regardless how careful you are, the stuff goes everywhere !!

Compressor and schutz gun is the way to go, I use a 1 litre can on the gun and refill it from the 5 litre can kept warm in a sink full of hot water. Its got a spray nozzle for general use and a flexy lance about 18" long for doing inside the chassis.

Any decent tool supply place. I had an old 100 litre one which packed up. Bought one of these to replace it

Amazon product (Got it for about £130 locally with discount)

That with 10 metre hose and schutz gun can be yours for less than half the cost of a professional waxoil job and you'll always have it to do as often as necessary as well as being a useful addition to your tools which can do so much!

Great. Got the compressor so I'm half way there. I'll have a look for a gun on eBay now.

Dont bother with Waxoil - its sh-te.... Dinitrol is much more likely to stay where you spray it.
