Hello peeps.

I fitted new rear discs and pads last week and I noticed that the pads are only touching the outter half of the discs. Is this normal and will it soon sort itself out or have I installed the pads incorrectly?

Thanks

hello the brakes might sort them selfs out but its very very unlikely. this is only wot id do...... first id bleed the brakes and look for leaks around the caliper ... if no luck id take the calipers back off and look to see if the pistons move in and out. agen looking for any leeks if all looks good befor putting back onn give the caliper a good clean so pads are free to move as they should..if still no good id get new calipers mate.

depends how poor discs are

The discs and pads are OEM not aftermarket so they should be sound. Just went and checked my other Rangie which got new discs, pads, calipers and caliper holders and I see it is doing the same thing. She has only done about 400 miles since I fitted them. I take there is no difference in the pads for caliper placement?

Pray tell me, what is bleeding brakes going to do for the situation? The pads can only sweep the area of the disc they are in contact with.

Not starting on you Jamie mate. But providing the sliders are free, the piston is capable of being pushed back in to fit the new pads and the surface of the calliper holder that the pads bear on is reasonably clean. A bit of Copaslip on the pad to holder contact points is all you need. It is virtually impossible to get the assembly wrong. Everything is self aligning. So i would say the pads are in contact as much as they can be.
Don't quote me on this, but as all the P38 transfer boxes are the same item, i think it is highly possible that all the lower range ECUs are also the same. Petrol or diesel as i understand it.

well thats why i call mr wammers, cos you the man:cool::cool: well mate thats what i thought the calipers could do with a good clean like i said mine where covered in sh.t.:). and the ecu i hope they are the same i can get my hands on one for £17 but dont want to get it.. and it dont fit or work or it messes up my car some how. i had a look on ebay and the ones off the petrol looked abit different:confused:. but knowing me i was properly looking at two different things lol ill give range rover a call see wot they say and ill let you know but I'm 98% sourer you'll be right but just to be on the safe side ill give them a call;) thanks mate:D:D:D:caked:
