Just bought a V6

Hi all
My wife wanted to go back to driving a 4x4 (had a Saab Aero convertible) and chose a 2004 Freelander V6 auto. The car is a nice

girly colour and she can't wait to collect it tomorrow. I spoke to a couple of independent LR specialists today to ask if they would check it over (just a precaution really) and they had nothing good to say about the car, even asking if we could wriggle out of our contractual obligations and not buy it.
Now that I am seriously worried about the purchase of this car, can anyone give me real advice regarding the terrible nature of these V6 cars please? Are they a total disaster or have two independent LR specialist just talked themselves out of my business?
I hope that you guys can aid my sphincter to come out of spasm

if yu want a Gaylander - only look at the doozils. They have enuf problems to reduce you kids inheritance to nought.

Unless you are either a masochist, want to get divorced or have very deep pockets.

Sadly the independents are right. Head gasket failure is a well known problem & expensive on this with the two heads. Also the cambelts are a very expensive job on this car if you can find someone willing to tackle it. One of the guys on here did it himself & said never again though all credit to him, he did successfully do it. Coupled to all the usual Freelander problems they are a risky buy unless you get it cheap. I think Hippo runs one & has done for a while without any major grief so pm him for some advice on exactly what to regularly check e.g coolant level/condition. On the plus side you will have a glorious, smooth powerful machine but one which need regular maintenance & general looking after.

Thanks for the info. Apparently it has recently been serviced and had the cam belt replaced, so hopefully that is one less thing to worry about.....

Ouch!! Don't do it. Its gonna cost to fuel it. If the gasket go then I believe I am correct in saying the engines gotta come out to strip it down. That means transmission, sub frame, frount suspension all out The wet liners are the problem as they aren't supported properly in the base of the block. It looks fun but please be (more) sensible and get a TD4.
