Hey Lads,

Its been a long while since ive been on. Sold my P38 today (my pride and joy for 5 years) and finally decided to get a Classic, its a 3.9 EFI V8 was delived to me and the battery was dead. fired it up and it growled like a beast! im absolutely in love....! im dlooking to do a full nuts and bolts rebuild from scratch. has all the usual rust problems so looking to galvanize the chassis and everything in between. I always have a bust schedule so allowing 2 years for the project (or sooner if i can keep her in the dark about the costs...!) just wanted to ask if anyone has any advice for me or anything i need to check out before i get started. looking to restore it to a completely original state with it looking like a factory vehicle so anything regarding kit, tools or equipment that would be worth looking at would be great

Congrats ! Have you seen dunkan's thread, he's in the process of doing an full resto, galvanized chassis etc.

a few weeks ago i got myself a '90 Vogue SE, 80k full history, very sound, all corrosion previously done, but very poor paint and some niggly problems, it in for a full repaint now and have most of the parts stacked up ready for when it comes back.

Great to see another classic getting the treatment!
 
Anyone who restores a classic gets my vote! I was lucky with my present '87 Vogue as it was original, only had two owners & garaged most of it's life. Come the day when I can no longer afford to keep up the protection regime I'll sell to someone who can. Best of luck with your project.
 
Didn't study the pics. before my last post - if as you say it's a 3.9 then there's been transplant surgery, as the car is plainly a pre '86 model. Hope the project goes well.
 
well spotted! it was actually my error its a 3.5 i saw it on the log book and did a data check and both confirmed. the lump will be coming out at some stage for a full overhaul and rebuild

No bad thing at all, the original 3.5 is probably the best lump of all the RV8's, not the most powerful of course but certainly the most reliable. Depending on the budget I assume you could always built in more poke, I knew a bloke, many years ago, who 'stroked' his to 4.3ltrs.

this will only be a sunday driver, wont be rallying it or putting it in the muck. a very respectable driver with a nice bit of power is what im after. DONT JINX ME!! :pound:

i think you'll also find that somewhere in the land rover by laws too...! oxy, american persuader and a griner will the the only man!! :)
 
Looking forward to another classic rebuild. Just putting mine together after a full strip and de rust rebuild. Parts are easily available. Have you got a twin carb or a EFI engine?

YRM are the best I have found for body parts, not the cheapest but the quality is there, most noticeable when welding.

Good luck with the build. Mine is for ALRC competition's so upgraded as I went not all standard but hopefully for the better. Standard better than factory rebuild will be worth the extra work though.
