Hi

I am new on here, and new to Land Rovers, usually opting for older vehicles, but after selling my tractor, need something with a bit of brute force to move things around with.

It is a 109 2.3 D truck cab, I will try to put some pics on later, if it all goes to plan!

Looking forward to getting it, but having never driven a landrover before, should be an experience! hehe

I have been looking at overdrive units, how hard are these to fit? Get holdof etc? Any information, much apriciated! :)

Cheers

Dave

Hi

Thanks for your nice comments!

Got it home, photo's after dinner, bit hot at the minute, as I couldn't get the window to open! hehe

Two little things, it seems to be running a bit hot, well it is just below the red on the guage, where do they normally run, and it is hot today!

The second is the brakes are a bit spongy, needing pumping to get going, and when they do come on, it pulls hard to the right. Any ideas? Do they just need bleeding, or do they need going through a bit deeper.

Otherwise it was quite nice to drive, I am used to wandering a bit, with the other old cars and steam engines.

Cheers

Sounds like you could do with your brakes bleeding, and new shoes wouldn't be a bad idea. As for an overdrive, you can usually pick one up for around £250 and shouldn't take much more than a couple of hours to fit, tis dead easy.

Cheers! I think it is genuine, how do I tell if it is not? Bit green in landrover circles as you may notice! hehe

The shed will have plenty of space for the motor roller, when the time comes I drop on one that is right for me. Decided not to rush into buying one, like the landy, just wait to drop on the right one, one I like etc.

How do you know about the motor roller anyhow?! hehe

;-)

I have bled the brakes, and it looks to be a bit better, in that, I can just stop, now with no pumping etc, but it is still pulling to the right, must need adjusting, but the two adjusters are confusing me at the moment! Any iadeas, in simple english, I have read about it on the net, with a set square etc, but it isn't making much sense! To me anyhow! hehe

Cheers

Dave

If you jack it up and twiddle each adjuster in turn you'll soon figure out which way they rotate to tighten. A complete brake overhaul kit isn't expensive on these things.

Difficult to really tell if a Series Landy is genuine as so many parts get swapped out and changed over the years. Most obviously, when you lift the bonnet, the drip rail along the bulkhead on the very early 3's was two short separate sections under each bonnet hinge, rather than a continuous curved rail across the bulkhead. But if it hasn't got that it might just mean it's had a replacement bulkhead ... there's loads of other minor details, like it shouldn't have dual circuit brakes at that age, the early ones had different demister vents on top of the dash etc etc. There's a lot of later Series 3's around masquerading as early 3's or even 2a's to get the free tax.

Cheers, I will have a look at it tomorow or monday, might be easier to wait till monday and go on a ramp at work. Do I back them both off, and adjust them the same number of turns, or tighten them right on, and turn them back a turn or two each, to get them both the same?

If I try the adjusters, if it has confused me, it may have confused the last chap too. If that drings no joy, I will have to look at getting the drums off, and going through them etc.

Cheers

Hadn't thought of this. I just bought a 1972 109 Truck Cab. Has anyone got any pictures of differences between early and late Series 3s? I'd like to do a bit of investigating on mine.
