Joined "the club" - 110 Defender bought

Deposit went down on a 110 today - being delivered next week.

57 reg 110 XS with 30k mile on the clock. I know it's probably not much of an "enthusiasts" Defender but can't wait!

Got it in Tonga Green with a few extras.

Been wanting one for years and now finally got there.

With the 335d Touring as the other car, my "realistic" ideal garage in now complete (the next level gets a bit silly and will probably never happen!).

Have you gone for a Station Wagon or Utility?

I know exactly where you are coming from with the car line up. I've just come down one step from a 997 and 90, to a D3 and a 90 (much more sensible!). Still want a TDCi though haha!

It's a Station Wagon but with 5 seats so loads of room in the back for our stuff/MTBs/surfboards/etc.

Eddy - most definitely! This beastie will be seeing some serious off road action! Loads of great tracks down here. Also need it for boat towing and launching, often from fairly awkward places.

Very nice!! Hope you don't feel the need for a snorkel and extra spots. Far to nice for that..... get a streering guard and a couple of diff gaurds and you are ready to roll Get a steering gaurd with towing eyes and start collecting ropes etc for recovery. Don't forget wading plugs if your going to get wet

Cheers Mr JC - I think a diff guard will be a definite must have item as well as steering guards. Any idea what sort of price I should be looking at for both?

Fear not - no snorkel or spots!

I got my steering gaurd from rebel4x4 £50 at a show so no postage Steering Guards, Diff Guards & Jate Rings for Land Rover Defender / 90 / 110 / Series II / Series III. Paddocks do some reasonable stuff and the diff gaurds are a good price and if you spend over £50 postage is free. Protection the pic of the galvanised steering gaurd with eyes Steel Steering Guard with Integral Towing Eyes - Galvanised - for Defender RHD looks quite dull but it is one that has been weathered a while.

I would stick with steel.... you can pay almost £100 for an alloy steering gaurd but I think most will agree steel is just fine.

So around £50 for a gaurd....about £27 for a rear axle and between £12.50 and £20 for the front. Watch the vat....not sure of the rear axle gaurd for yours so double check that.

Cool - cheers for that! Some have mentioned getting the underside cleaned and waxoyled. But for £500! Is that worth doing too?!

I paid my local independant Landy mech £100 for a good clean and waxoyle the underneath only....If you do a search in the top left window for 'waxoyle' you will get lots of tips. For me mid summer is best when everything is dried out and dries quickly after cleaning.. then the waxoyle.
You can do it yourself....get it steam cleaned and a waxoyle spray kit.... I remember a tip off 'sypher' about an old fat fryer to heat up the oil so it spays on like melted butter. In the cold it turns to butter out the fridge very quickly. You need a big sheet of plastic and be dressed like a bee keeper (with goggles)
Shop around local if you want it done for a good price.... sure a member local to you can point you in the right direction for a better deal than £500

Thanks again - really handy info. I do have a pressure washer and a fairly well stocked garage and am used to the minging job of removing barnacles and cr4p off our boat hull (some of it means lying under it and getting covered in fishy stinking gunk!) with it but this might be a bit more specialist?

There's an indy specialist near me - Penryn area. Have emailed him with a few questions but in my experience, a lot of Cornish garages do not respond to them! May have to call them.

thats cos theyre lyin mate, the kernish garages havent got the internet yet, they only found out about electricity recently

Well it arrived at about midday today and we have (me, wife, 2 year old boy) instantly fallen in love with it!

Just took it out for a fairly straightforward jaunt to a few beaches and loved it.

Fantastic visibility, looks great, loads of space, pulls up hills surprisingly well and nicely specced with a few goodies.

Turning circle is so poor that we have to take our driveway (very hard left then 1 in 3 hill about 100 yards long) in a couple of "shuffles" and it's definitely a BIG vehicle but it's fantastic.

Got new Grabbers all round, mint condition and absolutely ideal for us. Will test if off road shortly!
