Never mind that, find somebody else who needs 'em, or stick 'em on bumbay or summat. The postage back would nearly cover a new set;).

And I might be wrong but didn't Toyota stick 4bt's in their stuff?? Nice engines them, but I think I'd have to kill mine stone dead before I went that route:D

the idea with the 4bt is basically a future thing as something to do in the shed geting that perfect and sorted for fitting while i run this bloody thing till the innevitable happens either it going bang or the bt being ready for fitting sort of prudent planning :D:D:D

Have you considered putting in a 2.5n/a? I know where there is one without an alternator & bracket that you could have to play with.;)

bugger.:(

just done a bit of measuring with the micrometer and my bores measure average give or take .5 thou 91.285mm and those pistons say 90.475 mm giving a clearance or difference of 0.81mm now bound to be greater by a couple of thou if i hone the bores out bigtime

does this mean theyll fit :confused::confused:

lol wonder if your blocks been bored out to 60 thou over size and someones plonked 40 thou over size pistons in?
do i need to get them back out the cupboard?

its lookin verry likely matey considering when i unbolted the big end bearing on the conrod it wasnt verry tight :eek: certainly not 35nm anyway
if they were that loose and the gearbox was thrown together when i got it and nothing bolted together propperly i think its a bloody likely scenario theyve done that

could do with jamesmartins thoughts on this ..........now where is he when yer need him ;):rolleyes:

your bores are under +40 ,std bore is 3.562 =90.47mm ,+40 bore 3.602 +91.49mm, =+60 bore 3.622 = 92mm ,but bores are matched to piston so a new piston might be graded +40 but can measure quite a few thou smaller, so would seem if it is 91.285 =3.593 which is 2.7 thou smaller than nominal + 40 so new piston maywell come into that size bracket bearing in mind that piston measured at 90 degrees to gudgeon pin on bottom most part of piston needs to be 4 -6 thou smaller than bore ,so a bore at 3.602 /91.49,would need a piston of 3.597 /91.37 mm give or take a thou ,after saying that its better to hone a thou or so past ideal to give a good bore surface for rings than an accurate poor glazed surface , you do need a bore comparitor to measure bores as unswept top is not usually worn ,neither is bottom or measured front to back ,they wear top of ring swept area on opposite cam side the worst , if you take 5 thou out a block you end up often with a long triangle on either side of bore with opposite cam side been the biggest of unbored surface, and you can imagine a new ring cant get into that to seal ,if they wore even all around a bigger ring would take care of it as in cord rings

4 pistons and 115 miles later....:D
and what happens

johnny gets to work with the honing tool and a brand new set of caliapers and micrometers borrowed from a mad scientist and we shall be updated with the outcome this evening

even though the pistons dont fit at the moment i cant thank you enough for the chance of this turning out right :praise::praise:

Ha ha, I've just had a vision, of johnny sat on a deck chair (found in a skip), perched precariously on top of Minnie, a mug of tea sitting on the wing, and johnny sweating his hole off, honing like a maniac, with a heap of burnt out drills behind him......and grinning like a demented thing.....:D:eek::D Shouting, "Put another 50p in the meter for f**k sake"...

And his missus watching him adoringly...............:D:D:D:D:D

:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi

have you been watching me or something appart from the tea being black coffee in an intoveinous drip and redbull on standby thats exactly what happened

spent the biggest part of today trying to hone the bloody thing up i only half managed 1 barrell wich im still not happy with

so i got the yellow pages out about 2 hours ago and ended up in contact with a verry helpfull engineering firm that put me onto some geezer who started the conversation with if things were going ok you wouldnt be on the fone to me

so i told him of the woes with the pistons rings barrels and the new pistons being too big and he stopped me right there and just said take the head off the pistons out and the fanimold out of the way and ill bring my machine and bore the fekker out to the new sized pistons with the block still in the vehicle for £80 cash :eek::eek:

i didnt know that could be done never mind that cheap and itll be worth £80 to se this done on the drive

so here i go again trying to scrimp and save the cash together for this mechanical miracle to be done :D:D:D

Ah Johnny, that's great news man! And we'll be expecting plenty of pics.....:D
There used to be an old fella over here had a mobile boring yoke thing, he snuffed it a few years back..I haven't heard of one since..

Gez,Id love to see that mobile boring tool in action,it must take a lot of setting up.I dont know where you find these fellas Johnny, probably another dying trade.Looking forward to the pics keep up the good work Johnny!!

like ive always said from the day i joined landyzone ive got some unbelievable contacts and have a reputation in certain circles to be able to obtain just about anything if the need or money is right ;);)

ps;; when he comes to do the rebore im gonna have to ask if i can video the bugger in action :cool:
