Got to work in one piece, so 55 mile trip :). Wish me luck coming back.

Generally I am really pleased with my 90, the disco transfer box is a million times better on the motorway and cruises happily at 70 and even 80. It still feels a little wayward on country lanes, but I think I need to look at the backlash on the steering box.

One thing I need to sort is a clunk that you get when taking up the slack (either speeding up or slowing down) on the drivetrain coming from the back. Might start a thread for it. It obviously isn't the transfer box as that is new, so I guess either has to be the gearbox or the diff. If I lift one wheel off the ground there isn't any movement. The UJs are fine. Any ideas?
 
Made the trip back again as the guy I was going to meet didn't come in :(

A couple more observations
-the terrafirma shocks and springs are really good even though they are med duty and its unladen
- the brakes are fine until I need to brake heavily then go wooden???
- left indicating doesn't self cancel
- the speedometer reads 10mph too high!
 
Been doing some small stuff, got me a bluetooth cd player from ebay for £35.

And also just been out doing some soundproofing. It isn't as tidy a job as I would have liked, and I need to get the glue off the sides, but I think it makes it look quite a lot better, and will hopefully make it quieter.

I have also ordered 3 wolf boxes, 2 water carriers and another jerry can so will start the racking for the expedition soon.

Think I have worked out what the knocking is, the silencer is very close to the A frame arm and if I push it up it hits it. Would that fit with the knocking I have been having when taking the clutch off too fast?
 
Not updated this for a while, but the list of stuff to do is mounting up...

I fitted an alarm imobilizer which seems to work ok, and have also relocated my dual tank switches into the dash, which look a mess but do work...

So stuff to do:
- fit new HD drive flanges
- fit and wire up 42" light bar and 4x flood lights I bought. No idea where the switches are going though
- put the front anti roll bar joints on the right way up :doh:
- fit and wire up central locking kit
- fit new brake pads (just ordered some EBC greenstuff ones :))
- shorten rear tank filler pipe
- check for play in rear diff (really not looking forward to that)

But on the positive side I took it laning for the first time since the rebuild on Sunday, and other than the arb brackets running along the ground in deep ruts it was perfect :)
 
Just read this from beginning to end and have to say you have done a spot on job there!

I am in the process of rebuild my single garage into a double garage with high roof to enable me to start a project just like this!

I will be dropping back here for hints and tips when I tackle mine!

Thanks, it's been a hell of a journey! Def worth the effort though, I still (after a month) can't believe that I managed it!

Today and yesterday I have been soldiering on, though didn't quite go to plan...

I jacked it up with the intention of swapping the pads and putting the HD drive member on, but there seemed to be a lot of play in the bearings, so I had to take a couple more bits off and tighten them up. They are loads better.

Then fitted new greenstuff pads and the new members :)

Did the back ones today, was also going to install my new speedo gear and a new handbrake cable after sarah snapped the other one :doh: but after doing the pads my back ached and I couldn't be bothered. So might do it in the week.

I think during the rebuild I should have put new pads on as it turned out they were quite irregularly worn which meant that not all of the pad was touching the disk. Also one of the rear ones was nearly worn out! Hopefully it will stop better now...

I also shortened the filler for the rear tank as hopefully a slight dip is stopping the fuel from getting there. Will test it tomorrow.

Oh, and I also put the front anti roll bars on the right way up!
 
Small update, got the lights fitted. They were an arse to fit, but pretty pleased now they look.

Currently the small ones aren't wired in yet and the light bar is just temp wired in as there is supposed to be snow later and it would be useful.

Hopefully I'll find a couple of hours to do the wiring at the weekend, the switches are going into an rdx pod that goes by the side of the vent controls.
 
Have you had your tracking checked since you put it all back together?
Could be a trick of the camera mate, but wheels look a bit iffy in that last picture,
 
Took it in for its MOT today for the first time since the rebuild. Got all my fingers crossed (which is making typing this hard)

Wow! To be honest I wasn't struck on the colour when I got it, but I am really really pleased I didn't change it now.

Hope it passes, it is trying to snow now!
 
Passed :banana:

Only advisories are some play in the panhard rod bushes and a cut in the sidewall of a tyre. Also got a handbrake again now, which is great!
