Got some more paint on the axles and have roughly got it back together. I'm using a couple of years old tin of rustoleum and it is covering terribly, has anyone found this? I also got the spring painted, came out ok but not brilliant.

I also decided to fix a corner that got smushed while green laning, so the chequerplate got removed and it got sanded and filled

Time for the bodywork...
So I've now got
- two galv steel door skins
- two TD5 wings
- TD5 repeaters
- hinges
- handles
- galv end cappings
- all new badges
- door repair panel things
- door cards

I've also found a guy who is going to paint the whole thing for me for £600 or less which is pretty epic.

So in the next couple of weeks I need to put all of the new parts on and remove everything else. Exciting.

Red roof or gloss black roof? I can't decide.

Awesome! Contrasted roof can look pretty good, i was considering black roof on mine.

Yeah, I can't decide.

Chequerplate and wheel arches are black, I'm thinking a black roof might look good. Though all of the chavvy defenders seem to have black roofs

True... I decided to keep mine same colour, felt more almost more unique.

haha, or a skin coloured defender!

Getting the defender ready for paint this weekend, loads left to do but I'm slowly getting there
How it started

First took the roof rack and tent off

Then I spent the next two days fitting the wings, definitely not Aarons pace! They were just so hard to line up, have to say I'm not amazingly impressed with SP Landrovers' quality control.


Then I took the rear light capping off so that I could replace it with a galvanised one, oh and removed the ladder.

I'm trying to get this done asap, but I'm not about next weekend so I might have to do some evenings. Yay.

Ok, it has been frickin ages but I've finally got it back from the paint shop. Got to say I'm not 100% sure that it is still rioja red, but for £800 I am very pleased with the results.



Now to get it back together and get it sold

I thought that you had sold that ages ago, I hope you manage to recoup the money you've thrown into it....

I'll probably end up about even I think. Depends on how much I get from it, it's been a pretty great learning exercise even if I make a slight loss.

It's been at the paint shop since the beginning of Feb! The guy had to go into hospital so I've been waiting patiently

Engine is rebuilt and back in, hoping to get it started this weekend...possibly

Time for an update. I've had a good couple of days putting stuff back on. It def isn't rioja red any more, but I think I prefer it.


Got to put the arches back on when I find the right size rivets, then start on the interior.
