jhi all i need to find a noise on my td4 seems to be from the rear at 30-40 mph is it safe to put it on four axle stands and run it threw the gears up to 45mph many thanks

I did it recently whilst trying to locate what turned out to be a VCU bearing .I saw 30 on the speedo but just as long as you take time to ensure all is secure and stable it will be OK.
After failing to find it I took it to a friend of mines garage where we put it on the lift and did the same only getting it up to 50 .

hi thanks for that the noise seems to be a very faint hum coming from rear left hand side between 30-45 mph anythink under that no noise anythink over it no noise

If your going to do it just be very carefull!!!!, ive seen it go wrong with a TR6, looked like it was sound and the torque wobble off the engine unsettled the stands and it slipped.
Very lucky nobody hurt and (appeared) undamaged.
Also running transmission unloaded is supposed to be bad practice, got told by my old boss that diffs dont like it especially.
Good luck if you do....
