This am was jacking front wheel up to change disc ,when almost up the lower cylinder of the jack split. Fortrunately I have stands under and it only dropped an inch or so..No warning. just goes to show .you cant be too careful
 
This is why we load test all Aircraft Jacks every year!

Had a solid brick under a jack I was using to lift a frontera once. It split the brick and dropped a few inches.

Always use a trolley jack and get stands under ASAP now.
 
I've never used anything less than a 3 ton Pro. jack with 6 ton axle stands myself with Range Rovers and their family. Seen one slip off a 2 post lift once. Not pretty.
 
I hate jacks, i watched a video of someone replace the rear shock of his disco using only a high lift ratchet jack on his rear bumper
